COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION

Commencement Ceremony: 

When:  Saturday, May 16, 2015, ceremony starts promptly at 5:00 PM

Where:  Cerritos College Falcon Stadium (football stadium)

Cost:  Free for all guests

Guests:  You are encouraged to invite your family and friends to the Commencement Ceremony.  No tickets are required.  The entrance gates are located on both the northeast and northwest sides of Falcon Stadium and will open at 3:30 PM.  

No strollers will be admitted into the stadium for the ceremony.

GUESTS

Please note that wheelchair ramp access is available on both sides of the stadium. There are designated wheelchair seating areas in the stands. In addition to general wheelchair seating, wheelchair users and two non-disabled guests may opt to be seated on the track the day of the event. Field level wheelchair seating is available on the home side of the stadium only. Upon entering the home side gates, there will be signs and staff to assist guests with field level wheelchair seating. Seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Parking & Directions:  Parking will be free at The Falcon Stadium on Commencement Day.  The stadium is located on the south side of Alondra Boulevard.  For directions to our campus, go to the campus map page.

Instructions for Graduates:  Instructions will be explained to all participants in detail on May 16 in the Cerritos College Gymnasium. Please report to the Gymnasium no later than 4:00 PM(Doors will open at 3:00 PM.)  There will be no rehearsal prior to this date.  There will be a purse check-in system available in the Gym.  Bobby pins and safety pins will also be available.  The Commencement Ceremony will last a couple of hours, please plan to stay for the entire event out of respect for your fellow graduates. Official cap and gown are required for participation. Selected adornments, such as honor and organizational cords and stoles and flower leis, may be worn with the cap and gown.

Preparation for Graduation:  Prior to Commencement Day, have your gown pressed (cool iron only).  Cap should be worn straight, pulled down over the forehead.  Caps should be worn at all times during the ceremony, except during the National Anthem (men).  Tassel should be draped over the left front quarter of the cap.  The commencement ceremony takes place on the football field which is covered with artificial grass. We recommend that our graduates do not wear tall or spiked heels forthe ceremony.  

Commencement Program:  If you would like your name to appear in the Commencement 2015 Program, please submit your "Request for Associate in Arts Degree/Certificate of Achievement" evaluation form to the Counseling office before February 18,2015.  (Persons who submit their requests after this date may still participate in Commencement; however, their names will not appear in this program.)  Programs are free and a copy will given to each participant and each guest present at the ceremony.

Photographs:  Photos will be taken of every graduate as they shake hands with the President of the College after receiving their diploma cover.  On Commencement Day, you will be asked to complete the form on the back of your name card, and a free color proof will be mailed to you.  Once you have received your proof in the mail you can contact Grad Images at their customer service line at 800.261.2576. Graduation Supplies:  Caps, gowns, and tassels will be on sale in the Bookstore beginning April 8th.  The price for a cap and gown is approximately $31.99 plus tax (price subject to change).  Announcements and assorted gifts for the graduate will also be available from the Bookstore starting April 7th.

Diploma Coversare free to those graduates participating in Commencement exercises.  You will be notified by mail when your diploma or certificate is available for pickup in the Office of Admissions and Records.  If you do not participate in the Commencement Ceremony, you may purchase a diploma cover at the Cerritos College Follett Bookstore.

Mid-Year Graduates are encouraged to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.

Summer School Graduates are eligible and encouraged to participate.  The degree will be conferred after completion of all requirements.

Honors Students are indicated by a silver tassel which may be obtained in the Bookstore when you purchase your cap and gown.  Only those graduates who have earned an A. A. degree with a grade point average of 3.3 or better are eligible to receive a silver tassel.  The Bookstore will be open till 5:30pm on May 16.  If you have questions regarding the silver tassel and whether or not you are eligible please contact Admissions and Records.

Commencement Qualifications can be obtained through the counseling office, so make an appointment early to fill out the petitions to graduate: (find out if you have enough units or you are within enough credits to participate in the ceremony).
