Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependants
College Fees Waived: A grateful State of California offers a "College Fee Waiver Program" to dependents of service-connected disabled or service-related deceased veterans. The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) and your County Veterans Service Office administer the program.
Do You Qualify?: If you are the dependent, or if you know such a dependent, whose veteran parent or spouse has, or had, a service-connected disability, or died from service-related causes, then you, or that dependent, might meet eligibility criteria for the "College Fee Waiver Program".
What Fees are Waived?: All "State Mandated" and "per unit" fees can be waived. or, to put in everyday terms, you will not be required to pay Enrollment, Tuition, or Registration fees. Unfortunately, non-resident fees cannot be waived, nor can the cost of books, labs, food, parking, dorms, etc.
What Schools are Covered?: California State Universities (CSU); University of California (UC) Campuses; and California Community Colleges are the only schools where this program can be utilized. It does NOT apply to any private schools, nor does it apply out-of state.
School Year Covered: The Academic Year (Fall of the present year through Summer of the next year) are the periods covered. A new application MUST be made for each academic year.
Documentation Required: A Completed DVS-40 Form (see attached), and other necessary documents listed on the attached Community Services Agency Form. Completion includes signatures of both the student and the Veteran or parent.
