Presidential Finalists Bio -Dr. Mark Zacovic

Mark J. Zacovic, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark Zacovic is a 23 year veteran of the California Community College system, first serving as the Director of Administrative Services at Santa Barbara City College where he also taught part-time for the Business Administration Department each semester for five years beginning in 1985.  In 1990, Dr. Zacovic became the Vice President of Business Services at Lake Tahoe Community College.  In 1998, he became the Vice Chancellor of Business Operations and Fiscal Services at the Rancho Santiago Community College District.  His work at RSCCD included a year as Interim President at Santiago Canyon College.  Mark spent nearly a year as the Superintendent/President of the Mt. San Jacinto Community College District in 2006-07.  Most recently, he has assisted two districts in an interim capacity: as Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services at the Contra Costa Community College District for 10 months, and is currently working as the Interim Vice President of Administrative Services at Pasadena City College.

Mark has served on the boards of the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA) including one term as President; the Association of Chief Business Officials (ACBO) including two years as President; and the Community College League of California (CCLC).  He currently is serving in his second year as ACCCA’s representative on the state chancellor’s Consultation Council that meets monthly in Sacramento.

A native southern Californian raised in Whittier, Mark earned his BA in Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara; his MBA at Whittier College; and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in higher education at the University of Nevada, Reno.
