Habib American Bank Presents Scholarships to Cerritos College Business Students

NORWALK, Calif. – November 19, 2008 – Cerritos College students Christopher Pineda, James Lee, Woosuk Kim, and Mona Abassi were each
presented with a $1,000 Habib American Bank Business Scholarship by Nadim Junejo, branch manager at Habib American Bank in Artesia, during the November Cerritos College Foundation board meeting.
The Habib American Bank Business Scholarship was established in 2004. The bank’s CEO, Saleem Iqbal, is a Cerritos College Foundation board member.
Habib American Bank is chartered out of New York City, but has a local presence in Southern California through its branches in Artesia and Los Angeles.
Pineda, of Monterey Park, has just graduated from the college’s General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program and plans to continue his education at Northwood University on the Cerritos campus, majoring in automotive marketing and management. His long-term goal is to become the general manager of a BMW dealership.
Abassi, of Paramount, will graduate from Cerritos College this semester with an associate’s degree in financial accounting. She will continue her education at California State University, Fullerton where she will begin working on her bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Lee, of Buena Park, is working towards an associate degree in business administration at Cerritos College where he also serves as a student senator and is on the Cerritos College Planning and Budgeting Committee. He plans to transfer to the University of California, Berkeley where he will study for a career as a financial consultant.
Kim, of Garden Grove, came to the United States from South Korea three years ago. He currently has a 4.0 GPA and wants to eventually work in a career that combines business management with computer science.
