Andrea Bronte is Cerritos College's new art gallery directorNORWALK, CA – July 26, 2004 – Cerritos College is pleased to welcome Andrea Bronté as the new director of the Fine Arts Gallery. Bronté’s extensive experience and dedication to the arts will help to sustain the gallery’s commitment to the college’s art community and to foster the community’s continued growth.

Bronté attended San Diego State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in painting and subsequently received a master’s of fine arts degree from California Institute of the Arts. She has worked as a senior preparator and exhibition designer for numerous preeminent institutions throughout the Los Angeles area, including the UCLA/Hammer Museum and the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena. Most recently, Bronté was the associate director of RoseGallery in Santa Monica.

“We’re very excited to have Ms. Bronté as our new gallery director,” said Art Department Chair Steven Portigal. “She has a depth of experience and expertise that will be a great asset to our college.”

With the passage of a $210 million general obligation bond measure in March, one of the projects on the college’s list of priorities is the restoration of the fine arts gallery to its original location in the area of the art and design complex currently occupied by the dance studio.

“We are anxious to be a more vital and visible component of campus life,” said Portigal. “Having the gallery open up to the center of campus will be a big step toward that goal. And, we are looking forward to Ms. Bronte’s contribution as gallery director toward that same end.”

The fall gallery exhibition schedule will begin with the annual art faculty exhibition.

“The faculty exhibition allows the students to gain greater insight into their professors by viewing their work,” said Bronté. “It’s also an opportunity for the campus community to view the work of their talented colleagues.”

The art faculty exhibition will open to the public Monday, August 30 and will continue through Thursday, October 30. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 6 – 9 p.m. For more information about the gallery, please visit www.cerritos.edu/gallery or call (562) 860-2451 extension 2612.
