**Beginning Fall 2009 all students will be dropped automatically from all classes and waitlists if payment is not received within 5 days from enrollment date.**(Fees Include: Health, Lab/Materials, and Enrollment)

Fall 2009 semester begins August 17 and here's some of what's going on at Cerritos!

All on-campus students signed up for Theory or a speed class MUST also sign up for CRCC 1T, our lab class.  This class is replacing prior TBA hours attached to all classes, so you sign up for 1T one time and you are covered for all your courses.  There will be a log-in computer in the lab to track your hours (4 hours per week)Before there were TBA hours attached to classes.  Now 1T is a co-requisite and you need to sign up for 1T (You don't need to sign up for 1T for each class you take - one sign-up will do it.)
Qualifier students will also sign up for CRCC 5T for qualifier lab

New students will register for CRCC 140 and CRCC 141 (together).  This is our Theory and Theory Review class (teaching you the machine), offered days MTWTH from 10-1 p.m., or nights MTWTH from 6-9 p.m.  (See below for online Theory information.) We do NOT recommend you sign up for other classes as Theory is quite consuming, though you can sign up for the BCOT/BCOM business English classes if you need extra units.  See "getting started" and "getting a machine" links on main web page

Big News!!
Cerritos College Court Reporting Program has received a federal earmark (grant) to begin training in captioning. In the Spring 2010 semester, we will offer 3 small classes on post-production (offline) captioning that all court reporting students (regardless of speed) will be eligible to take.  These classes will be geared toward the type of captioning that is required when scripts are required for posting videos to the Web or using videos in education in distance education programs.  There is a tremendous need in this area to get the scripts of the oral language made, and that is right up our alley!  This can be done on the QWERTY keyboard or on the steno keyboard.  The experts at taking down what is being said and converting it into proper English text -- are you, our court reporting students, who practice doing that each and every day!  The need in this area is growing daily.  We are going to be encouraging all of our students to get involved.
The captioning program will also offer online realtime captioning classes for higher speed students who are interested in the fields of broadcast and classroom captioning as well.  Stay tuned for further information!

For more information about joining our Theory classes, please see the "Getting Started" link, and the "online classes" link for online Theory.
Day Theory hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, plus 4 hours lab time arranged (CRCC 1T).
Night Theory hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, plus 4 hours lab time arranged (CRCC 1T).
Online Theory class "meets" approx. 10 hours a week asynchronously (not all at the same time).  You work at your own time when you are available to attend, study and practice.

All Theory classes require practice outside of class!!

**New Students!  Here's What You Need to Know!
The first thing you need to do is become a Cerritos College student.  To do that, you must enroll at the college.  On the main web page, www.cerritos.edu, follow the links for "new students" to apply to the college.  You should then receive a student number via email within approximately two days.  (You can also go directly to the Admissions Office or complete an application by mail.)  Now that you have a student no., you will be able to register for classes when registration is open for the term you are applying for.  For example, the Fall 2009 registration does not start for anyone until July 16, and then it is priority registration, so new students will be some time after that.  You will either receive a letter in the mail with your "appointment to register" date (anytime thereafter), or you should also be able to see your registration date once they are assigned by going to www.cerritos.edu/  and clicking on "MyCerritos" and logging in.  That is also how you will actually register for classes if you do so online.  You will need the section no. for your class (see Getting Started).  All students MUST pay for their classes and waitlist classes within 5 days of registering or you will be dropped from the class automatically.  You may send in a check (be sure it arrives in time!) or pay your fees online through the MyCerritos system.  Even if you were a prior Cerritos student, if you have not attended for one semester or more, you need to reapply.  They then will reactivate your student no. so you can proceed to register when your time comes.  If you get on a waiting list, show up for that first class for on campus classes, and contact your instructor for online classes.

New students should also know that initially, you can start the program without having your prior transcripts sent and received by our campus.  If you decide to pursue the AA degree or college certificate, you will have to have your transcripts sent and counsel with a counselor in the counseling office for academic guidance.  For Court Reporting Department guidance, you will be counseling with your court reporting instructors and/or department chairs.
