Counseling
All new, returning, and transfer students seeking academic degrees or certificates must see a counselor for course approval prior to registration. It is advisable to complete assessment requirements before seeing a counselor. If you are going through the court reporting and captioning program solely to prepare for a state license, national certification, or for vocational job skills to go to work and you are NOT seeking to get an AA degree, a College issued Certificate of Achievement, or seeking to transfer to a four-year university, in that specific instance you are NOT required to see a counselor prior to registering for classes in the Court Reporting and Captioning Careers program and you are not then required to take assessment tests in order to register. Likewise, if you are seeking a department-issued certificate and not a college issued certificate, you are not required to see a counselor prior to registering for classes.
Prior to registration, counselors are available on a walk-in basis. It is advisable to make an appointment with the following counselor before coming in:
Advisory counselor: Dr. Adolph Johnson (Court Reporting Counselor)
Appointment Desk: 562.860.2451, Ext. 2231
