Transfer Student

You are a transfer student if you have attended another college, but have never attended Cerritos College.

 

STEP 1: Admission

Fill out an admission's application and return it to Admissions and Records or apply online (proof of residence may be required). We recommend having official transcripts from any high school or college that you've attended sent directly to Cerritos College Admissions and Records or submit them to a counselor during an appointment or an Orientation Workshop.

STEP 2: Counseling

Once you have completed your application for admissions, you need to schedule an appointment with a counselor tto develop an educational plan and determine if you are required to take an Assessment Placement Test. Walk-in counseling is also available. Bring transcripts, placement test results, and/or other documentation verifying completed coursework to the meeting with your counselor.

Assessment Testing

As a transfer student, you may be required to take the Assessment tests or show proof of assessment testing or course completion from your previous college. The tests assess your math, language, and reading skill levels. Those students who are not planning on taking math, English, and/or reading classes may qualify for an exemption. You will need to meet with a counselor for more information. If you intend to take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, take the ESL Test before registration.

If you intend to take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, take the ESL test before registration. Call the Assessment Center for appointment scheduling information. Assessment test schedules and sample tests can be picked up at the Career Services Center or you can visit the Assessment Testing Center's webpage for an online test schedule. For helpful tips, please click here for a Student Guide. Parking is available in lot C-1. You may purchase a $1 daily permit from the yellow "Park-Ur-Self" meters.

Orientation Workshop

After you have taken the assessment placement test(s), you may elect to participate in an Orientation Workshop or schedule an individual counseling appointment.

There are two ways to make an appointment, by phone or on the Internet.

  1. Phone: You may call Counseling (562-860-2451, ext.2231) today, and schedule an orientation workshop that works with your schedule.
  2. Online: If the Internet is more convenient, visit New Student Orientation to select the workshop that is most convenient and complete the online form.

If you cannot attend an orientation, you can visit the Online Orientation to complete the workshop.

Call the Counseling Center to sign-up for an Orientation Workshop. If you are an international student, contact the International Student Center for counseling and orientation information. This workshop includes a campus tour, an informative presentation which will include course selection as well as one-on-one academic advisement with a counselor. Please bring unofficial/official high school transcripts to the Orientation Workshop. When additional assistance is needed prior to enrollment, counselors are available on a walk-in basis, in the Counseling Center.

 

STEP 3: Registration

Once you have completed the Orientation Workshop, you will receive a registration appointment. After receiving your registration appointment, you may enroll for your classes

STEP 4: Counseling

After getting settled in your first semester, meet with a counselor every semester to ensure that you have an educational plan to meet your career goals.  Counselors are available to assist you in your educational planning year-round. You are strongly recommended to make an appointment with a counselor early in the semester to ensure that your educational plan accurately reflects your educational goal. The appointments are 30 minutes in duration.
