NORWALK, CA – May 31, 2005 – Five students from the Cerritos College Child Development Department received awards from the Beach Cities Association for the Education of Young Children (BCAEYC) at the May 16 BCAEYC board meeting.
“This is a phenomenal acknowledgement of these students as well as the strength of our child development instructional programs,” said Jenine Nolan, instructional dean of Cerritos College Health Occupations Division.
Laura Gaytan-Sanchez of Lakewood, April Vicencio of Bellflower, Karla Marin-Diaz of Long Beach and Tylina Rene Fitch of Lynwood each received the Community College Award for $225 plus membership to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Arnold Chaidez of Bellflower received the Cheryl Watson Award for $225 plus NAEYC membership.
BCAEYC is the local affiliate of NAEYC and CAEYC and is the professional membership organization of educators in child care settings, preschool, Head Start, kindergarten and elementary school up to the third grade.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age eight.
