Spring 2012 semester begins January 9 and here's some of what's going on at Cerritos!
All on-campus students signed up for Theory MUST also sign up for CRCC 1T, our lab class. There will be a log-in computer in the lab to track your hours (4 hours per week) and a paper list in case the log-in computer is not working.
Qualifier students will also sign up for CRCC 5T for qualifier lab
New students will register for CRCC 140 and CRCC 141 (together), along with CRCC 1T. This is our Theory and Theory Review class (teaching you the machine), offered days MTWTH from 9:30-2 p.m. (See below for online Theory information.) We do NOT recommend you sign up for other classes as Theory is quite consuming, though you can sign up for the BCOT Business English classes if you need extra units. See "getting started" and "getting a machine" links on main web page!

**New Students! Here's What You Need to Know!
The first thing you need to do is become a Cerritos College student. To do that, you must enroll at the college. On the main web page, www.cerritos.edu, follow the links for "new students" to apply to the college. Make sure you select the correct term. You should then receive a student number via email within approximately two days. (You can also go directly to the Admissions Office or complete an application by mail.) Now that you have a student no., you will be able to register for classes when registration is open for the term you are applying for. For example, the Spring 2012 registration does not start for anyone until probably late November, and then it is priority registration initially, so new students will be some time after that. You will either receive a letter in the mail with your "appointment to register" date (that date and time or anytime thereafter), or you should also be able to see your registration date once it is assigned by going to www.cerritos.edu/ and clicking on "MyCerritos" and logging in. That is also how you will actually register for classes if you do so online. You log into MyCerritos with your student no. and birthdate. You will need the section no. for your class (see Getting Started). All students MUST pay for their classes and waitlist classes within 7 days of registering or you will be dropped from the class automatically. Even if you were a prior Cerritos student, if you have not attended for one semester or more, you need to reapply. They then will reactivate your student no. so you can proceed to register when your time comes. If you get on a waiting list, show up for that first class for on campus classes, and contact your instructor for online classes.
New students should also know that initially, you can start the program without having your prior transcripts sent and received by our campus. First-time college students are all being required to take the assessment tests offered by the assessment center and complete the couseling orientation PRIOR to registration. (Because we are a vocational program, there is a possibility that a waiver of assessment tests can be filed if you plan only to get the vocational training and not an AA degree. Process pending.) If /when you decide to pursue the AA degree or college certificate, you will have to have your transcripts sent and counsel with a counselor in the counseling office for academic guidance. For Court Reporting Department guidance, you will be counseling with your court reporting instructors and/or department chairs.
New Students, if you are having difficulty registering, go to your MyCerritos (by going to www.cerritos.edu and logging in to MyCerritos with your student number and birth date) and check to see if you have any holds. If you have a hold for AOC (Assessment Testing) and/or Counseling, you will need to get a waiver form from the department. Send an email to vmorgan@cerritos.edu subject: need waiver form, and include your information, what holds you have, your student number and contact information, and what your educational goal is so that a waiver form can be sent to you to file with the Admissions Office ASAP! That is a possible bump to registration but one you can work through. The other option is to go through the assessment process (for Math, English, and Reading) and complete the Counseling Orientation, either on campus or online. *The Assessment tests may be taken at other educational centers/colleges per arrangement with the Assessment Office for those students who live out of hte area.
If you are coming for vocational training only, you can proceed to register after filing the waiver form!
