Cerritos College Hosts Successful College Night
More Than 53 Universities and 1,700 Attendees Come Out
Cerritos College, in conjunction with Bellflower, Downey, Norwalk-La Mirada and Paramount Unified School Districts, hosted its annual College Night on Wednesday, October 1 in the college’s gymnasium.
“College Night is a successful event that gives high school students and their parents access to a number of colleges and universities in one setting,” said Shirley Arceo, School Relations coordinator for Cerritos College. “The event has proven to be a successful collaboration between Cerritos College and its four high school districts.”
It proved to be a successful evening with more than 53 universities and 1,700 attendees coming to the event. This year’s event had a higher turnout than many of the other College Night’s in recent years.
“Great turnout,” said one university representative. “I had to go out to the car to get more materials.”
While live music played, courtesy of the Cerritos College fine arts department, students and parents were greeted by university representatives from colleges as far away as Cornell University in New York to more local colleges, such as Stanford and UCLA.
"College Night is an excellent opportunity for Cerritos College to showcase our departments and programs to the students of our local high schools," said Toni Grijalva, Community Relations Coordinator for Cerritos College.
University representatives were not the only ones on-hand to help the high school students narrow down their choices for their higher-education plans. Cerritos College's financial aid staff were there dressed in $100 suits ready to assist the students with a financial plan as well.
Cerritos College’s College Night is an annual event that gives local high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to talk with university representatives from schools across the nation. The event is designed to help high school students with the process of selecting and applying to a college of their choice.
