School Relations Hosts 11th Annual Senior Preview Day for High School Seniors
Over 800 High School Students Visit Campus for Day of Tours and Presentations
Cerritos College hosted more than 800 local high school students during Senior Preview Day on Friday, April 24. Students attended the half-day event from 24 area high schools and from high schools as far away as Huntington Park.
The day began with a welcome rally in the gym—complete with games, prizes, and a brief orientation. Following the rally, groups of visiting students were assigned guides who lead them to faculty presentations and facility tours. Following a morning filled with exploration of academic and vocational options, visitors were provided with a free lunch and entertainment in Falcon Square. A booth fair offering the prospective students access to resources such as academic and vocational programs, student services staff members, student club leaders, and athletic information was held in Falcon Square. The college also hosted a special luncheon for high school counselors where specific programs were highlighted.
Every year, Senior Preview Day introduces high school seniors to Cerritos College’s academic and vocational programs, student services, student life and athletic programs. The event showcases Cerritos College and presents individualized program options to high school seniors. College student volunteers give campus tours to the high school seniors and participate in an array of presentations.
“This event provides a fun opportunity for high school students to get acquainted with college life,” explained Shirley Arceo, coordinator of school relations, who orchestrates the event.
“Many of them are still weighing their options between certificate and transfer programs,” continued Arceo. “We’ve found that each year, our visitors are thrilled to discover the variety of options Cerritos College has to offer. They leave Senior Preview Day with future plans and ideas that they may not have had before they attended.”
Senior Preview Day is coordinated by Cerritos College’s Office of Public Affairs that collaborates with the campus community.
