Voters Return Two Incumbents to College Board of Trustees and Welcome One New Member

On November 3, residents of the Cerritos Community College District voted to return incumbents Bob Epple and Dr. Bob Hughlett to the Cerritos College Board of Trustees.  The third vacancy will be filled by Dr. Shin Liu, a professor of Rio Hondo College and a resident of Cerritos.

Running in the election were incumbents: Epple, Hughlett and Carmen Avalos, and challengers: Liu and Tom Chavez, a retired Cerritos College employee.

Hughlett had 23.55 percent of the vote, Epple received 22.68 percent and Liu followed with 8.68 percent. Avalos, who sought a second term on the board, came fourth with 18.02, followed by Chavez with 17.06 percent.

Former Mayor and Councilmember Hughlett was re-elected to his second term on the board.  He is a retired administrator and educator of the college.

Epple, a former assemblyman will also serve his second term as a member of the board.  Prior to his first election, he was appointed to fill his late wife Cheryl A. Epple’s term.  Epple also served previously on the board from 1988 to 1994 before being elected the California Assembly.

The newly elected members of the Board will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, December 9.
