New Interim Assistant Director Heads EOPS
Yvette Tafoya Continues to Inspire Students in Her New Management Position
During its September 16 regular meeting, the Cerritos College Board of Trustees approved the hire of Yvette Tafoya as interim assistant director of EOPS.
Tafoya, new interim EOPS assistant director, most recently served as financial aid specialist, a position she has held since 2006. Tafoya was hired as a financial aid technician in 2004. Prior to that, she worked in the Financial Aid Office at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) from 2000 to 2003.
Tafoya earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration at CSUF and her master’s in counseling at California State University, Long Beach.
Her accomplishments at the college include the LINC program which aims to improve college access for foster youth. She was instrumental to the 2008 launch of the program along with Lori Switanowski, director of Foster and Kinship Care Education. Tafoya was also involved in the implementation of the college’s partnership with Higher One for the new financial aid electronic disbursement system.
When asked about her new role, Tafoya responded, “I love working one on one with students at EOPS and being able to get involved in the students’ college experience from the day they step into Cerritos College to the day they graduate or transfer. It is very rewarding.”
