Re-entry student receives Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship

Steve Richardson and Jeannette GobleExecutive Director of the Cerritos College Foundation, Steve Richardson, presented Jeannette Goble, of Whittier, with the $1,600 Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship at its board meeting on November 17.

Retired Norwalk Superior Court Judge Dan Pratt established the annual Carmen Solis Pratt Re-Entry Scholarship in the year 2001 in memory of his mother who valued education, but was never able to attend college herself.

Each year, a recipient is selected among applicants who are re-entry students at Cerritos College and are 35 years of age or older.

Jeannette Goble is pursuing her associate degree in accounting. She is currently employed as a bookkeeper/office manager for a small business and is enjoying applying what she learns in the classroom on the job. Goble has maintained a 3.9 GPA and is planning on pursuing her bachelor's degree in accounting and becoming a CPA.

"I am happy to present this scholarship on behalf Dan Pratt. Dan has been a great support to Cerritos College re-entry students over the last ten years," said Richardson. "Jeanette was selected as the recipient because she reflects his mother's sense of initiative and drive and is certain she'll accomplish her educational goals."
