Global Consortium features leading Islamic thinker
Dr. John Haas, history professor at Cerritos College and director of the Global Consortium hosted a dialogue on politics on Tuesday, April 17.
Entitled "Transcending Tolerance: Islam, Pluralism, Resistance and the New World Order," the forum featured the world-renowned Muslim scholar and public intellectual Tariq Ramadan as the guest speaker.
Ramadan is Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the Oxford University (Oriental Institute, St Antony's College) and also teaches at the Oxford Faculty of Theology. He is Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, (Qatar), Senior Research Fellow at Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan) and Director of the Research Centre of Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) (Doha, Qatar).
Ramadan shared his life story and how his political views were formed. He stressed that all need to come together spreading peace and justice in order to stop war and terrorism.
