COUN 10 Career Planning

This course is designed to help the student approach career decisions in a systematic way. A variety of techniques are used to assess individual characteristics and relate these to occupational information. At times, sections may be offered which emphasize particular types of situations such as the person making initial career decisions, mid-life career changes, and minority programs. (Formerly CG 1)

Nine Week 1 Session (8/17 - 10/16)

COUN 20 Self Awareness Towards Education Readiness

This course is designed to aid the student in identifying and evaluating individual, educational, and vocational ability. Self-awareness techniques will be used to enhance this assessment process. This class is designed primarily for the EOPS summer students, but is open to all interested students. Field work experience will assist the student to develop skills that enhance his/her work performance. (Ten hours field work for those employed as work study or equivalent volunteer experience as approved by instructor. This course may be taken maximum of 2 times. (Formerly CG 2)

COUN 33 Orientation for the Student with Disabilities

This course is designed to orient the disabled student to the varied programs and services offered by Cerritos College. An IEP/learning contract will be developed for each student who enrolls in this course. Emphasis is on assisting the disabled student to successfully integrate into all aspects of the college. (Formerly CG 3)

COUN 34 Career Exploration for the Student with Disabilities

This course is designed to assist the disabled student in the process of developing goals for future employment. An Individual Educational Plan (IEP)/learning contract will be developed for each student who enrolls in this course. Emphasis is upon exploring career choices, assessment of interests, and the development of employment seeking skills. (Formerly CG 4)

COUN 35 Personal Assessment for the Student with Disabilities

This course is designed to assist the student with disabilities to develop personal assessment techniques. The course will present concepts and methods of self-evaluation and personal action including goal setting, time management, making choices, achieving objectives and self advocacy. (Formerly CG 5)

Nine Week 2 Session (10/19-12/18)

COUN 50 Orientation and Education Planning

This course is designed to introduce students to services offered at Cerritos College; the history and mission of the system of post-secondary education system in California; policies and procedures which affect students at Cerritos College; educational planning, including major and general education requirements, course sequencing, and transfer requirements for the California State University and University of California systems.  As part of the course, students will tour the Cerritos College campus, acquainting themselves with the location and function of various offices and service providers.  Each student will produce an educational plan specific to her or his educational goal.  This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only.  This course may be taken a maximum of 4 times. COUN 200 Success in College and Career

This course will provide students with knowledge, information, and skills to better understand themselves as students, people, and members of the working world.  It will assist them to establish life, career, educational, and personal goals and to develop plans and strategies to successfully meet those goals. (Formerly CG 200)
