Getting Started

• TalonNet is a system designed to facilitate online learning by providing you with a consistent design using a set of common tools.

ACESSING TALONNET

• Open your browser, Internet Explorer is recommended.
• Enter http://talonnet.cerritos.edu in the address bar and press the enter key on your keyboard

LOGGING IN

• If you are not currently logged in enter your User ID, your Password, and press the enter key on your keyboard
• The TalonNet My Workspace Homepage loads and you are ready to proceed

TUTORIALS

• The Student Tutorials are a good place to start getting familiar with the system.
• The tutorials contain such information as which browsers are supported, how to use the FAQ’s, and information on the My Workspace and Course Tools.
• To view a topic, select the corresponding link from the table of contents. To view the next or previous topic click the corresponding link
• To return to the table of contents click the Student Tutorials Home link

GETTING AROUND

• If you are enrolled in a course you will see a link to the site in the navigation bar along the top of the page. Click the link to access your course site
• The homepage can be customized by your instructor but will normally contain several panels. Among these are the site’s description, recent announcements, and recent chat activity.
• To access the Syllabus click the Syllabus link on the Tool Menu. A syllabus normally contains instructor contact information, course objectives, required material, and prerequisites.
• The calendar allows you to view important events and dates quickly. The default view is by week however you may change the view to Day, Month, Year, or List of Events by choosing the desired view from the drop-down.
• To access the Assignments, click the Assignments link on the Tool Menu. After selecting Assignments you will see a listing of all open assignments. To complete an assignment click the corresponding assignment title.
• The Lesson Builder allows instructors to publish learning sequences. To access the Lesson Builder tool, click the Lesson Builder link on the Tool Menu. After selecting the Lesson Builder you will see a listing of available lessons.
• To access the Drop Box tool click the Drop Box link on the Tool Menu.  The Drop Box feature allows instructors and students to share documents. Each student has a personal Drop Box folder that only they and their instructor may access.
• The Assessments tool is where you take online exams and participate in surveys. Click the Assessments link on the Tool Menu to access the Assessments tool. On the Assessments page you will see any quizzes currently available as well as any that you have previously completed. To take an available assessment, click the corresponding link.
• The Discussion Board allows you to publicly communicate with your fellow site participants via forums and privately through the built-in private messaging feature. To access the Discussion Board tool, click the Discussion Board link on the Tool Menu.
• Click the Grade Book link on the Tool Menu to access the Grade Book. The Grade Book allows you to view your current score for all assignments and the corresponding percentage. You may also view your course grade, upon release by the course instructor.
• To access the Image Viewer tool click the Image Viewer link on the Tool Menu. The Image Viewer tool allows your instructor to present a series of images in a presentation format.
• Click the Chat Room link on the Tool Menu. The Chat Room tool allows you to participate in real time conversations with your instructor and fellow students.
• The Announcements tool allows you to view messages, and any attached files or links, posted by your instructor.
