Campus Construction Update #01 - 02/04/09

We are ready to embark upon a few more very exciting projects in the very near future.

The first impact will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, when you may notice parking lot C-6 closed off and temporary fencing erected for the staging and construction area of our much anticipated Classroom/Lab/Office Building #1 (CLO #1).  This building will be constructed just to the east of parking lot C-6, in the footprint of the former Natural Science Building location.  The estimated construction timeframe for this project is approximately 12 months in duration, not including any unforeseen delays and/or acts of nature beyond our control, plus the time it takes to complete the staging and moves for final occupancy.

The second impact will be the construction of another highly anticipated new building, our new  Southland Cerritos Center for Transportation Technologies building (SCCTT).  This building will be the North of Campus Police, adjacent to Auto Tech and the Skills Lab at the former location of the R & D building.  This project’s exact start date is yet to be determined, but will be early next month (March 2009) and will utilize an area in parking lot C-10 just east of the construction site for construction staging.  This project’s estimated construction timeframe is also 12 months and does not include any unforeseen delays and/or acts of nature beyond our control, plus the time it takes to complete the staging and moves for final occupancy.

Please reference the first attached pdf showing the general construction impacted areas on Campus, including estimated dates of various projects and parking area closures, including parking space counts that will be lost due to these projects.  Impacted areas in this pdf  include the current construction of the  New Aquatics Center project, the future Auto Technology Renovation project and the future Facilities/Purchasing/Warehouse Complex project.  If you normally access the Campus from these construction impacted locations, you may wish to alter your egress to and from Campus to other less impacted locations.  At this time, there is sufficient available parking in the southern section of parking lot C-10 to cover the loss of spaces due to these projects.  The second and third pdf’s show details of the CLO #1 and the SCCTT project sites including, fencing plan, pedestrian access and vehicle traffic flows in those respective areas.
