Habib American Bank Presents Scholarships to Cerritos College Business Students

NORWALK, CA – December 18, 2007 – Cerritos College students Gibran Godinez, Feilong Li and Shalin Shah were each presented with a $1,000 Habib American Bank Business Scholarship by Nadim Junejo, branch manager at Habib American Bank in Artesia, during the Cerritos College Foundation Board meeting in November.
The Habib American Bank Business Scholarship was established in 2004, and Saleem Iqbal, the bank’s chief operating officer, is a Cerritos College Foundation board member. Habib American Bank is chartered out of New York City and has a local presence through its branch in Artesia.
A first-generation college student, scholarship recipient Gibran Godinez is working on completing his associate’s degree at Cerritos College. Godinez, of Compton, plans on transferring to California State University Long Beach with a major in business administration, focusing on finance. His goal is to become a financial analyst.
Feilong Li, of Artesia, came to the United States from China six years ago and is pursuing his associate’s degree in international business. He plans to complete his bachelor’s degree at California State University, Fullerton, and dreams of working with an international company that would allow him to work in China.
Shalin Shah, of Bellflower, graduated from high school in India last year and decided to further his education here in the United States. Shah has maintained a 4.0 GPA as a business major. He also has a keen interest in economics, logic, and strategy and plans on transferring to UC Berkeley for his undergraduate degree. His goal is to pursue his MBA and eventually run his own strategy consulting firm.
