NORWALK, Calif. – March 26, 2008 – The Cerritos College Foundation presented the newly established Alice Wang Scholarship to three Child Development students Thursday, March 13 during its board meeting.
The scholarship was recently established in honor of Alice Wang, the wife of a Foundation board member J.P. Wang. The Wangs actively support academic endeavors of low-income students through scholarships. Three $500 scholarships are awarded to single parents who major in Child Development and demonstrate outstanding academics.
The very first recipients are Marquitta Cobb, of Bellflower, a mother of a two-year old daughter and a full time Head Start teacher; Maria Oliver, of Norwalk, a mother of a young daughter and a preschool teacher and Cynthia Korbeck, of Whittier, a mother of a 17-year old son and an aide to a program for infants & toddlers with special needs. J.P. presented the recipients with the certificates on behalf of his wife Alice.
“I am honored to be able to give back to the community and support single parents pursuing child care careers to provide a strong foundation to their children,” says J.P. Wang. “I wish them all success in their careers.”
