Students Beatriz Ramirez and Julia Willett were each presented with a $500 scholarship by Steve Richardson, Foundation executive director.

Established by the Greater Harbor Area Employer Advisory Council to stimulate students who will be moving toward business careers, this scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are full-time business majors, with a 2.5 GPA.

While Beatriz Ramirez, of Norwalk had worked in the business management field, she realized that she was unable to advance unless she had her degree. She decided to focus on school and began work on her associate’s degree in accounting at Cerritos College. Attending school full time, working part time, serving as President of the Accounting Club and raising two young daughters, Ramirez has maintained a GPA of 3.8. She plans on transferring to either USC or Cal State Fullerton where she will pursue her bachelor’s degree. She hopes to work for one of the Big Four accounting firms and eventually return to school to pursue her master’s degree.

Julia Willett decided to return to school after the company she spent 13 years working for was sold. Pursuing a degree in accounting was a natural decision for Willett. She has excelled in her classes, earning an impressive 4.0 GPA while raising two teenagers. Willett hopes to eventually earn her master’s degree and begin working in the private or non-profit sector as a financial analyst or controller.

“I’m honored to receive this scholarship. I have received several recognitions and I’m very excited for my future now,” said Ramirez.
