Established in 2005 by college staff members in honor of Dr. Bob Hughlett, a member of the Cerritos College Board of Trustees and the retired director of Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), the scholarship provides $2,000 to a disabled student for educational needs.

Woolfolk always knew that she wanted to work with children. She was wavering among becoming social worker, psychologist and teacher until her first semester at Cerritos College in which she attended a child development conference as an undecided major. The conference was such an eye opener for her that by the end of the day she was a declared child development major.

She is planning to cross-enroll at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in the fall 2009 semester. After she obtains her bachelor’s degree in child development from CSUDH, she plans to pursue her master’s degree at the University of La Verne. One day, Woolfolk hopes to open a childcare center with her friends and become a mentor assistant director.

“The scholarship money will help me tremendously overcome many financial obstacles I encountered last semester,” said Woolfolk. “Being a child development major, we have many extra projects that we are required to make for use in our classroom and the money will also help me in this aspect.”
