Learning Communities / FYE Program

Students Studying in the Library

Learning communities involve the intentional creation of class pairs or clusters around a common theme, public issue, or question. Course instructors integrate their syllabi, encouraging students to gain a deeper understanding of each course, even as they discover connections between them.  Classroom activities, tests, assignments, field trips, research projects, and educational technology are used to engage students in their own learning, as well as provide them with valuable “real-world” skills.  Additionally, students benefit from an enriched classroom environment due to attending multiple classes with the same students, promoting student-to-student interaction. Research indicates learning communities promote student achievement, retention, and progress toward degree completion. Faculty benefit from professional development and training, fresh approaches to teaching, and collaboration with colleagues. Sign up Now for a Learning Community (LC) or First Year Experience (FYE) set of Classes! Contracts available in our office in the Multipurpose Building Room MP 100 (A-F).
