Cerritos College New Classroom / Laboratory / Office Building Complex #1
Basis of Design
The Basis of Design for the architectural scope is to design a building that complements the existing architecture of the campus and works within the parameters of the Campus Standards Handbook. The exterior materials and colors will be consistent with those indicated in the Campus Standards Guideline. These materials consist of stucco, exposed structural steel and Low-E glazing.
The utilization of natural light will be a prominent feature for instructional spaces within the new building. The north façade will maximize natural lighting, while the south façade will engage the use of horizontal fins to provide indirect light into the classrooms. The glazing system will consist of dual pane Low-E glazing with a reflective coating on the exterior surface. This reflective coating will help to deflect ultraviolet rays, thereby reducing energy costs associated with heating and cooling.
The exterior wall construction will utilize 6" metal studs with gypsum sheathing. The interior walls will be constructed with 4" metal studs. The interior finishes will be consistent with the finishes listed within the Campus Standards Handbook.
Compliance with Campus Standards:
The new CLO Building will be designed to comply with the requirements and recommendations of the approved Final Draft Campus Standards Handbook, dated January 18, 2007. The building will also comply with the Space Allocation Standards as required by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
The new Classroom Lab Office Complex consist of the following:
