Cerritos College Science Buildings

Completed Project

Purpose of Project

The Natural Science and Lecture Hall buildings were constructed in 1959 with only minor modification since that time. The buildings contain many current code compliance problems associated with ventilation systems, teaching conditions, numerous accessibility problems and several life/safety issues. Both buildings also have structural deficiencies that were identified by the Division of State Architect in 1998.

The project will remedy code violations and critical life/safety hazards associated with ventilation, hazardous materials, over-crowded/unsafe teaching areas and numerous accessibility problems.  The project would be phased to minimize the impact on the instructional programs.  Phase 1 would be the demolition of the Lecture Hall and construction of the new complex.  Phase 2 would be the demolition of the Natural Science building.

Compliance with Campus Standards:

The new Science Buildings will be designed to comply with the requirements and recommendations of the approved Final Draft Campus Standards Handbook, dated January 18, 2007. The building will also comply with the Space Allocation Standards as required by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
