Dear Students,

We need to let you know that after 1 ∏ years we once again offering the nondestructive testing (NDT) class, MFGT 54- Ultrasonics Level I.
This 15-week class starts February 2nd and meets on Thursdays (6:00 to 9:00 pm). Your cost for taking the course, purchasing the book and a parking permit is approximately $180.00. (Book details will be discussed on the first day of class). Other institutions offering Ultrasonics often charge upwards of $1,000.00. If you know anyone who is interested in taking the course at low Community College prices, please forward this information on to them. Ultasonics Level I Flyer

Seminar Focus
The Composites Technology Career Seminar is designed for career and workforce managers & counselors, business managers, students, and those new to the industry as
well as those working in the field of design & analysis, manufacturing & fabricating, composite material, research, and testing & inspection looking to improve their skillsets.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide attendees with the following;

  • Information on technology careers with a better understanding of composites and current opportunities within the industry.
  • An opportunity to meet the lead instructors with industry experience.
  • A "hands-on" approach to common activity found within the industry.
  • Provide an understanding of common terminology, materials, processes and applications within the industrial workplace.

Summer Series

"Summer Series" 2011 - The Department has planned this "Summer Series" of Clinics and Workshops for everyone to enjoy. Please come out and attend activities you are interested in.
Most all of the activities are to be held in the Plastics Manufacturing Technology Department on campus (Room ME-1). Check to see when events are offered, as we are here on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings for these activities to allow people at different times to attend. Bring a buddy or co-worker to participate. We hope to see you.


Aug. 11 (Thur. 4-8pm)
“Open House"
Student alumni from the program as well as invited vendors will be making presentations on topics including; plastic recycling, resin applications, scissor sharpening, rapid prototyping and more. This year we are focusing on former students (Alumni) of the program to come out and share what they are doing with plastics materials, processes, equipment or applications for the attendees to gain knowledge and to network with everyone.

Fall Term begins

The Fall classes start the week of Aug 15 - 19, 2011. Everyone needs to pre-register before the semester begins. We recommend that everyone goes on-line to reactivate or obtain their student body # now, and register when they are permitted.

Western Plastics Trade Fair

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) is hosting their annual Western Plastics Trade Fair at the Phoenix Club, 1340 S. Sanderson Ave. in Anaheim. Trade Fair (4-8pm), Dinner
(6-7:30pm). Contact Tom Tudor at 909-647-5515 to register. Please follow the link www.socalspe.org to register and attend.
Cerritos College will be an exhibitor at this industry sponsored event. Look for us when you attend.

Open Lab Opportunity
An "Open Lab" is available to everyone in the Plastics Department (room ME-1) on

  • Sat. Aug. 6, 2001 from (9-Noon)

These sessions are scheduled for the shop and classroom with supervised use by students who just need some extra "hands-on" time or to gain an opportunity to consultwith staff about their projects.

New people to the program wanting to see the facility and new equipment can stop by and look around.
Job board information on current "hot jobs" is also available.

Clinics

Rapid Prototyping Clinic New!
A Rapid Prototyping Clinic is open to everyone to understand how to turn their ideas into reality.

The clinic is on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 6-9pm in the Plastics Dept. (room ME-1). Presentations from industry representatives and demos of the Department's new rapid prototyping machine will take place. Examples of actual parts made will be on hand to see what is possible to produce. This technology is perfect for inventors, designers and those needing replacement parts for their projects.

Composites for Aircraft Mfg. Clinic New!
A "Hands-On" Clinic about "Composites for Aircraft Manufacturing" will take place in the Plastics Department (room ME-1) on Sat. July 9, 2011 from (9am-Noon). Anyone interested in composites can attend and find out how these aerospace materials can be used for aircraft parts. The local Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter members have been invited to participate and learn more about these techniques. Come out and see how the vacuum bagging process can make better lightweight and strong laminates for special projects.

July 7 (Thur. 6-9pm)
Rapid Prototyping Clinic

Lecture/Demonstrations of making actual parts for "plastic prototyping" with the (FDM) fused deposition machine will be covered. Presenters from industry will give insight as to what they are doing to utilize this technology for their businesses. The Rapid Prototyping machine will be on display and demonstrated during the event. Learn how you can participate to have your designed parts made.

July 9 (Sat. 9-Noon)
EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Composites for Aircraft Mfg.
This event is planned for everyone to understand composites for aircraft applications.

Hands-on activity is planned so that everyone can participate. Local EAA Chapters have been informed about the meeting, so there will be allot of information and networking.

July 14 (Thur. 6-9pm)
Surfboard Design and Construction Clinic

A look at how the AKU shaper computer program is available for custom surfboard design is the focus. Come out to participate in a clinic that will demonstrate how to use this program to customize your own surfboard blank design so that it can be CNC cut (hot wire & milled) to your specifications. Surfboard Construction class information for those who are new or experienced of how you can make your own surfboard during the upcoming Fall term beginning on Tue. night Aug. 16th from 6-10pm will also be explained.


July 28 (Thur. 9am-5pm)

Mold Release Demo Chem-Trend
The Department is hosting a ChemLease "Distributer Training School" for ChemTrend's training of select distributers and attendees about products and applications best suited for the industry. Student RSVP for attendance is required.
