NWRC >> Mission Statement
 |
We are here to serve the college community in a variety of ways. Our primary mission is to help every student on campus reach his or her academic and vocational or career goals, especially in courses that use writing in any way. |
More specifically, our objectives include the following:
- to support writing instruction at the college by supplying one-on-one assistance to all students taking English composition or literature classes
- to provide students in all courses across campus (not just English) direct, one-on-one assistance with the writing assignments they need to complete
- to provide quick yet reliable web-based reference tools and resources to all students-tools they can access any time of the day or night
- to provide students with an all-purpose writing resource center where they can get help with any type of writing task they face-for example, letters to the editor, job applications, personal statements for university transfer, or scholarship statements
- to help students prepare for professional exams or situations that require writing skills-like the CBEST or Teacher TRAC requirements
- to help students become more comfortable and adept with using educational technology for writing, researching, and communicating with others
. . . and, in addition . . .
- to offer support and assistance to faculty in developing and evaluating writing assignments, papers, tests, and projects for use in their classes
- to encourage creative and critical thinking and writing across the curriculum
- to promote a culture of literacy on campus by encouraging and supporting intellectual inquiry, research, and writing in every academic and creative field
- to provide a community meeting place for writers-a place where people can come together to share ideas, discuss current events, and interact with others
