We are here to help students become more competent and successful writers.  And we provide a variety of services to achieve that goal.  If you need assistance with your writing, we can help in the following ways:

· guide you through all of the stages of the writing process, including each of the following steps:

o discussing possible topics or approaches for your writing assignment

o brainstorming for ideas to write about that topic or idea

o helping you to find information or resources to develop that topic

o assisting you in organizing the material you find into an outline

o showing how to create a composition (draft) from those notes

o reviewing the composition you wrote to evaluate its effectiveness

o pointing out errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format

o directing you in documenting your research, using the appropriate style for your discipline (usually, MLA or APA)

· link you to valuable writing-related resources on the Internet

· connect you with other campus resources (like the English Department, Library, and Learning Assistance Program) that can help you develop as a writer

· help you develop word processing and Internet research skills

· serve as a liaison (bridge) to your instructors so that you can better understand the writing assignments you get in your classes

 

· classroom visits introducing students to the New Writing Resource Center

· on-site class visits to the Center, geared to your students’ special needs

· consultations and discussions about integrating writing more fully into your subject-matter curriculum or fine-tuning assignments and projects

· participation with colleagues inside and outside of your discipline about incorporating more creative and critical thinking activities into your teaching repertoire
