Policital Science Mission Statement

Welcome to the Department of Political Science at Cerritos College. The Political Science Department is located in the Social Science Building and is part of the Business, Humanities and Social Sciences Division which serves about 10,000 students per semester. The Department offers a broad scope of courses and serves Political Science transfer majors, GE transfer students, vocational certificate and AA degree students. The use of technology, in and outside the classroom, is greatly valued within the Political Science Department. As such, the Department is one of the pioneers in developing online instruction and incorporates MyPoliSciLab as another vehicle for teaching Political Science Students. Department faculty endeavor to serve as mentors to students and participate in student organizations, clubs and other campus activities. Moreover, instructors are constantly working to keep their curriculum current to attract the diverse needs and interests of our student body.

If you take courses in our department, you will:

  • Attain a better understanding of liberty, freedom, justice, and political power
  • Learn about the political events that affect our country and the world
  • Study how our society and others make political decisions
  • Understand the challenges that are inherent in developing public policy
  • Gain an appreciation for the fundamental ideas and choices that must be understood and addressed for any society and its citizens to achieve success
  • Develop positions and viewpoints about human relations and the way our society and other societies should be
