Marijean Piorkowski

In 2009, after 32 years at Cerritos College as the Department Chair of the Physical Therapist Assistant program, Dr. Piorkowski retired. She will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in her retirement!


Nancy Coursey

Education:

  • UC San Diego in 1987,  Anthropology and Physiology degree.

  • AA Physical Therapist Assistant, Cerritos College, 1993.

Work Experience:

  • Current

    • Instructor, Pediatrics and Careers in Physical Therapy, PTA Department Cerritos College. 

    • PTA,  Children's Hospital of Orange County, 9 years.

    • Teaching:  High school science, 5 years.
       

  • Prior

    • Instructor,   Pediatrics, Cerritos College PTA,  4 years

Additional Information

  • APTA member and Orange County District Affiliate Representative from 1994-1996.

  • Married  14 years and have three children, 2 dogs, and numerous other (smaller) pets.

  • I love  physical therapy and the gratification it brings to others everyday.

  • Teaching goal:  to instill her enthusiasm for the profession in my students.

  • In my spare time I enjoy reading and any sport that is available.  My current favorite is roller hockey.


Julie A. Bathke, Department Chair

Education:

  • B.S. Physical Therapy, CSULB, 1978

  • M.S. Education, University of Kentucky, 1982

Work Experience:

  • Physical Therapist:  24 years -- Variety of  acute, sub-acute and outpatient settings.  Includes clinical experience in burn and wound, orthopedic and medical-surgical, neurology, cardiac rehab, geriatric.

  • Teaching:  15 years clinical teaching, 19 years part-time classroom.  Emphases on therapeutic exercise, electrotherapy and geriatrics.

Personal statement:

“I believe that learning is a team sport.  When we work together, we maximize the potential of ourselves, our program, and our profession!”


Valeria Christensen

Dr. Christensen, a graduate of University of Southern California, joined the faculty in 2009. Her teaching responsibilities include Kinesiology, Soft Tissue Interventions, Therapeutic Exercise, and Pathology. In addition, she directs the Clinical Education component of the PTA program.
