NORWALK, CA – April 24, 2007– Cerritos College hosted more than 800 local high school students during Senior Preview Day

on Friday, April 20. Students attended the half-day event from 22 area high schools and from high schools as far away as Montebello.
Each year, Senior Preview Day introduces high school seniors to Cerritos College’s academic and vocational programs, student services, student life and athletic programs. The event showcases Cerritos College and introduces high school seniors to individualized program options. College student volunteers lead groups throughout the campus and participate in an array of presentations and facility tours.
“Senior Preview Day provides a fun opportunity for students to get acquainted with college life,” explained School Relations Coordinator Shirley Arceo.
Activities during the day included a welcome rally in the gym—complete with games, prizes, pep squad, and a brief orientation of college life. Following the rally, groups of visiting students were assigned guides who lead them to faculty presentations and facility tours. Following a morning filled with exploration of academic options, visitors were provided with a free lunch in the Cerritos College Student Center. An information booth expo was also provided in the Student Center, offering prospective students access to resources such as academic and vocational programs, student services staff members, student club leaders, and athletic information. The college also hosted a special luncheon for high school counselors where specific programs were highlighted.

“For some of these students, this event is the first time they have visited a college campus,” said Arceo.
“Many are still weighing their options between certificate and transfer programs, and we’ve found that each year, our visitors are excited to find out how much Cerritos College can offer them. They leave Senior Preview Day with future plans and ideas that they may not have had before they attended.”
Senior Preview Day is orchestrated by Cerritos College’s Office of School Relations. For more information about attending Cerritos College or to learn more about volunteer and sponsorship opportunities for Senior Preview Day, please contact the School Relations Office at (562) 860-2451, ext. 2129.
