Old-Time Hollywood Will Come Alive at Cerritos College Benefit Concert

WHAT: The glamorous aura of Hollywood’s golden age will descend on the Cerritos College campus Nov. 3 as the critically-acclaimed “Hollywood Revisited” hits the stage. With over $1 million worth of one-of-a-kind costumes, including those worn on set by stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Gene Kelly, Christopher Reeve, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, this dazzling song and dance revue performed by Broadway actors is the only show in the world created around a costume collection. Hosted by Cerritos College music instructor and concert pianist Greg Schreiner, a well-known costume collector with over 300 unique creations in his possession, the show features not only songs and dances, but also anecdotes about the designer, movie and scene for each costume.

In the nearly twenty years since it was created, “Hollywood Revisited” has been performed all over the United States, and also in Europe and Japan. Mixing a liberal dose of humor with songs such as Marilyn Monroe’s “My Heart Belongs to Daddy,” Barbra Streisand’s “I’m the Greatest Star,” and Judy Garland's “The Trolley Song,” the show maintains a broad appeal.

Schreiner, who teaches piano at Cerritos College, created the show as a way of combining his two passions—music and Hollywood costumes.

“I fell in love with the costumes from the old films—not only because they’re so beautifully made, but also because of who wore them,” he says. “Everything was designed just for stars back then. It’s a totally different look now.”

Schreiner has appeared on numerous television shows including AMC's "Hollywood Fashion Machine," A&E's "The Incurable Collector," and "The Montel Williams Show." He is curator of Special Collections at the Hollywood Museum, where a portion of his collection is on display.

Proceeds from the Nov. 3 show will benefit the students and programs of the Cerritos College Music Department.
