Cerritos College Adult Education to Offer New Free Acting Classes

NORWALK, Calif. – March 25, 2008 – Cerritos College OWL (Older Wiser Learner) Program will be offering two new acting classes. The classes start this week and will be offered in the summer semester as well.

The “Acting for Commercials and TV” class offers the insider tips for the working in the world of Television and Commercials. The class explores all aspects of the industry from getting an agent, headshots, auditioning skills, working on a set and taking directions. Also, students will be provided with a better appreciation of the film making process from script to screen. A perfect class for anyone especially the mature adult wanting to start a new career! Class meets every Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Activity Center at the City of La Mirada, 13810 La Mirada Blvd.

The “Acting for Stage plus Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking” class helps students to be a more effective communicator and develop a better appreciation of Theatre and the performing arts. The class will focus on exercise to effectively cure public speaking fears and the opportunity to work with short scenes from contemporary playwrights from the American theater. A great course to appreciate the craft of acting while developing your inner personal skills. Class meets every Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Activity Center at the City of La Mirada, 13810 La Mirada Blvd.

The presenter of both classes is Robert Conrad, a seasoned director, professor and independent film maker. Many of his students are now employed actors.

The OWL Program is part of the college’s Adult Education and Diversity programs offers courses for older adults at various senior centers and sites in the community. Courses include arts and crafts, exercise, music, quilting, chorus, creative writing, senior topics and self-management. Seniors have an opportunity to interact with others in classroom settings, but also have a chance to participate in senior fairs within the community.
