Cerritos College Foundation Gives Over $11,000 in Scholarships

Students are Honored at Foundation’s May Board Meeting

Altogether, $11,100 in scholarship money was awarded to the students.

“Congratulations to all of you for your accomplishment,” said Foundation Board Chairperson Carol Baker. “We are very proud of each one of you who are committed to your education.”

Sherry Coulter, of Norwalk and Lori Dominguez, of Bellflower, who was not able to attend the presentation, each received the $300 Albert Ostroff Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Instructional Dean of Humanities/Social Sciences Francine De France, in memory of her father Albert Ostroff.

Brian Huezo, of Buena Park and Juan Cruz, of South Gate, were each awarded the $250 Cassidy Family Scholarship, which recognizes two outstanding graphic design students.

Yezenia Barboza, of Bellflower, received the $500 Broderick/Commeford Scholarship, which was awarded to assist developmental students in their educational pursuits.

Latrese Theus received the Assistive Technology Scholarship, which awards students with equipment such as scanners or learning systems. Latrese received the Kurzweil Learning System which provides a comprehensive reading, writing and learning software solution.

Gloria Gallardo, of Downey and Katelyn Hamasaki, of Hawaiian Gardens, who was not able to attend the presentation, each received the $500 Randy and Elmer Dobson Scholarship. This scholarship was awarded for the first time and is designed to reward outstanding history majors.

Julia Willett, of Long Beach and Beatriz Ramirez, of Norwalk, each received the $500 Greater Harbor Area Employer Advisory Council Scholarship. Established by the council, this scholarship helps business students as they pursue their education. Beatriz Ramirez also received the $3,000 Marion Hyde Scholarship. Also awarded for the first time, this scholarship was established by Diane Keenan, Cerritos College economics professor, as a way to honor her mother Marion Hyde.

Mona Abassi, of Paramount, Mata Uluivuda, of Artesia, and Feilong Li, of San Gabriel who was not able to attend the presentation, each received the $500 International Business Panel Scholarship. The recipients were honored last month for their outstanding academic achievements at the International Business Panel.

Finally, Alejandra Cruz Rossil, of Lakewood and Joshua Ickes, of Paramount, each received the $1,000 The Chugh Firm Accounting Scholarship. Recently established, the Chugh Firm Accounting Scholarship recognizes outstanding business accounting students.
