NORWALK, Calif. – July 10, 2008 – Cerritos College today announced that its Business Court Reporting and Computerized Shorthand (BUSC) program has changed its name to Court Reporting and Captioning Careers (CRCC).
The name change better identifies the Court Reporting program, which also prepares students to become closed-captioners using the same technology. Closed-captioners create captions for live shows (non-scripted), like Oprah, QVC, sports broadcasts and newscasts. Court Reporting is a high-tech career, using computerized stenotype machines and computers to generate realtime text in legal and other proceedings.
“Cerritos College has one of the largest and best court reporting programs in the state with evening, weekend and online courses to serve various students’ needs,” says Vykki Morgan, who co-chairs the court reporting department along with Mary Balmages. “We are doing our best to train court reporters and captioners to meet industry demands for these highly qualified professionals.”
For more information, contact the Court Reporting and Captioning Careers Program at (562) 860-2451 ext. 2746 or visit www.cerritos.edu/courtreporting.
