NORWALK, Calif. September 26, 2008 – The Cerritos College Faculty Senate will host two speakers as part of its Civic Education Initiative. The event is co-sponsored by the Cerritos College Faculty Federation.
On Thursday, October 8, State Controller John Chiang will deliver a brief talk on the state of the budget and what the newly-agreed-to budget in Sacramento means to California, especially to higher education. Controller Chiang will hold a brief Q&A session immediately after the presentation.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen will visit Cerritos College on Thursday, October 16 to discuss the upcoming elections in November, focusing specifically on state ballot Initiatives, the importance of voter registration and turnout as well as ensuring that every vote is counted.

For the past two years, the Cerritos College Faculty Senate has been deeply focused on an agenda for student success. The Civic Education Initiative is part of this holistic approach to student success which aims to demonstrate to students that education and learning goes far beyond the classroom and the textbooks. The Initiative provides students with opportunities to engage and interact with local, state and federal leaders and to learn about the communities around them.
