NORWALK, Calif. – September 5, 2008 – The Cerritos College Foundation raised $60,000 in scholarship funds at its 23rd Annual Golf Classic August 4 at Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier. This year’s title sponsor, Bovis Lend Lease, was joined by numerous corporations and local businesses in helping the Foundation achieve its goal.
“I was extremely impressed with the tournament this year,” said Jerry Jones, program director of Bovis Lend Lease. “This annual event gets better and better as the years go by.”
Underwritten by over 80 sponsors—15 of which were corporate sponsors—the tournament featured support from more than 60 local businesses and individuals. Corporate sponsors included Converse Consultants, Dean Foods/Swiss Dairy, Follett’s Cerritos College Bookstore, Frantone’s Restaurants, Gerald P. Roodzant, DDS., GST, Inc., Keenan and Associates, L.A. County Supervisor Don Knabe, Moore Flooring, North County Vending, Southland Motor Car Dealers Association, tBP Architecture, The Vinewood Company, LLC, Union Bank of California and Zebra Coffee.

There were several competitions as part of the tournament. Most notable, Moore Flooring took home the prize for the “Business Competition.”
Foundation Board members presented Cerritos College students Katie Colln and Jenel Guadagno the 2008 Nancy Kelly Academic Scholarship, awarded each year to outstanding athletes who display high academic achievement. Colln, of Lakewood, transferred to UCLA and plans to teach high school English and coach softball. Guadagno, from Downey, an education major who transferred to Point Loma Nazarene University wants to become a teacher as well.
The 24th annual Cerritos College Foundation Golf Classic is scheduled for August 3, 2009 at Friendly Hills Country Club.
