WHAT: Cerritos College and Bellflower Unified School District (BUSD) GEAR UP Partnership will present a fundraising Celebrity All-star Basketball Game on Thursday, March 26. Power 106’s popular DJs will be taking on the Bellflower Buccaneer men’s varsity basketball team. There will be live DJs throughout the game as well as a halftime autograph session. Tickets for the game are available pre-sale for $7 at the Bellflower High School Activities Office, (562) 920-1801 or $10 at the door the day of the event. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Cerritos College and Bellflower Unified School District GEAR UP Partnership to enhance program funding.
The Cerritos College men’s basketball assistant coach will officiate the game and the men’s basketball players will run the score board for the night.
GEAR UP is a federally sponsored grant-funded program with a goal to increase the number of low-income students entering and succeeding in postsecondary education through academic preparation and support. Cerritos College collaborates with BUSD in implementing the GEAR UP program by providing tutors and delivering programs and services including campus tours, workshops and presentations. The college also provides a presentation entitled “College: Making It Happen” in both English and Spanish to educate parents of the importance of planning ahead for college.
