WHAT: Cerritos College will hold its 53rd annual commencement ceremony to honor its graduating students on Saturday, May 15 at 5 p.m. in Falcon Stadium. Cerritos College’s Board of Trustees will present degrees and certificates earned during the 2009-2010 academic year.
This year’s commencement speaker is Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. Knabe was first elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in November of 1996 and was re-elected in 2000, 2004 and 2008.
Knabe is respected for the strength of his grassroots support and considerable experience in local government, which have made him a highly regarded voice, not only at home in the Fourth District, but in Sacramento and Washington D.C. He was elected to the Cerritos City Council in 1980 and served as a Councilman for eight years, including two terms as Mayor. He was a leader in the development and implementation of Cerritos' General Plan during a time of unprecedented economic growth.
Before joining the United States Navy, Knabe earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
Knabe has been a great supporter of the college for many years. He has served on the Cerritos College Foundation board of directors since 1988. Knabe has sponsored the Foundation's annual fundraising golf tournament for many years and recently provided a funding of $100,000 to the college toward its new automotive partnership building.
No tickets are required for the ceremony. The entrance gates are located on both the northeast and northwest sides of Falcon Stadium and will open at 3:30 PM. No strollers will be admitted into the stadium for the ceremony.
