Cerritos College Foundation Golf Classic raises $70,000

Tilden-Coil Constructors and other corporate sponsors helped raise funds for students

Commander Chuck Street emceeing the dinnerNORWALK, Calif. - August 25, 2011 - The Cerritos College Foundation raised $70,000 in scholarship funds at its 26th Annual Golf Classic August 1 at Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier.

"This year's tournament was a tremendous success," said Cerritos College Foundation board member and chairman of the 2011 Golf Classic Committee, Dr. Jerry Roodzant. "We extend special thanks to Tilden-Coil Constructors as our Title Sponsor and our corporate sponsors for their commitment to come alongside the Foundation in helping students achieve their educational goals."

Joining Tilden-Coil Constructors, were GST, Inc as Falcon Sponsor and corporate sponsors Crown Fence, Frantone's Pizza & Spaghetti Villa, Fresh Dairy Direct, Gerald P. Roodzant, DDS., Hill Partnership Architects, HMC Architects, Imperial Paving, Keenan and Associates, Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, Moore Flooring, North County Vending, P2S Engineering, R2A Architecture, Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuaries, Southland Motor Car Dealers Association, tBP Architecture, The Pepsi Bottling Group, The Vinewood Company, Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., and Zebra Coffee.

A sold-out field of golfers enjoyed a complimentary putting competition sponsored by Musty Putters and then hit the links for a day of golf. At the dinner following the tournament, Commander Chuck Street, 102.7 KIIS FM's popular traffic reporter emceed the dinner and awarded numerous door prizes to lucky winners.

The annual Helicopter Ball Drop at the beginning of the awards dinner draws a crowd to see who will have the winning ball dropped in the hole. This year's winner, Southland Motor Car Dealers Association, generously donated the entire $2,500 cash prize back to the Foundation. Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe returned as auctioneer for the live auction and promptly raised $9400 for such items as Disneyland's Club 33, Big Horn Golf Club and tickets to an Angels baseball game in one of the exclusive suites behind home plate.

Nancy Kelly, Jessica Lozano's parents, Lozano and Steve Richardson (l-r)The Foundation presented Jessica Lozano, of Carson, the 2011 Nancy Kelly Academic Scholarship, awarded each year to an outstanding female athlete in softball who displays high academic achievement. She plans to transfer to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, where she will be playing collegiate softball. A biology major, Lozano hopes to become a pediatrician.

The 27th Annual Cerritos College Foundation Golf Classic is scheduled for August 6, 2012 at Friendly Hills Country Club.
