New Cerritos College Board of Trustees for 2012

NORWALK, Calif. - December 8, 2011 - The Cerritos College Board of Trustees held its annual organization meeting on Wednesday, December 8.
The board chose new officers for the coming year, electing immediate past Vice President Bob Arthur as the new board president, Secretary Dr. Shin Liu as vice-president, and Member Dr. Bob Hughlett as secretary. Outgoing President Tom Jackson, a trustee since 2003, was presented with an honorary certificate for his year of dedication and service to the board.
"It was a challenging year, but Tom showed outstanding leadership to help the college navigate through the tough year," said incoming president Bob Arthur.
"The members of Cerritos College are delight to work with, and I could not accomplish my job as the president without all of your help," said Jackson.
Board President Arthur, of Norwalk, is a Cerritos College alumnus and longtime community member. In addition to his role on the college's board, Arthur has served as a board member for the Cerritos College Foundation since April 1996. Arthur also served as mayor and councilmember for the city of Norwalk, as board member for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and as a board member for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Board Vice President Dr. Shin Liu, of Cerritos, joined the Board in 2010. Dr. Liu is a professor of computer science and the coordinator of distance education at Rio Hondo College. She previously taught part-time at Cerritos College. She is a scholar and passionate educator with more than 15 years experience in the community college system. She has a doctoral degree in computer information systems from Argosy University, a master of computer science from the University of Texas at El Paso, and her bachelor of education degree is from the National Taiwan Education University. Dr. Liu is also a certified Microsoft Software Engineer and a certified Cisco Network Engineer.
Board Secretary Dr. Bob Hughlett, also of Cerritos, has served as a board member since 2005. He is a retired administrator from Cerritos College, having been director of the Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS) at the college from 1980 to 2005. Dr. Hughlett served as mayor and councilmember for the City of Cerritos and as Board of Education member for the ABC Unified School District. He is president of the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED).
Cerritos College serves as a comprehensive community college for southeastern Los Angeles County. Communities within the college's district include Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, La Mirada, Norwalk, and portions of Bell Gardens, Lakewood, Long Beach, Santa Fe Springs and South Gate.
