Cerritos College receives Subaru donation for scholarship
Scholarship to assist high school automotive students

NORWALK, Calif. - April 17, 2012 -- Cerritos College received a $2,500 donation toward student scholarship funds from Subaru and five area dealers on April 12.
Dealers Pacific Subaru of Hermosa Beach, Renick Subaru of Fullerton, Sierra Subaru of Monrovia, Singh Subaru of Riverside, and Timmons Subaru of Long Beach each contributed $250, and Subaru of America matched with $1,250 to donate $2,500 to Cerritos College/Southeast ROP Automotive Youth Education Systems (AYES) Program.
The check was presented by Subaru's District Parts & Service Manager Dan Page, Los Angeles Zone Director Mike Campbell, Timmons Subaru of Long Beach Service Manager Mike Alusick and Renick Subaru Vice President/Co-owner James Renick to the Cerritos College Foundation Executive Director Steve Richardson and the college's Automotive Instructor Leonard Glick.
AYES prepares youth for entry-level career positions or advanced studies in automotive technology. Since its inception, it has sent nearly 11,000 interns to the auto industry nationally. In partner with Southeast ROP and AYES, Cerritos College provides training and career pathways to entry level technicians.
Subaru has supported AYES-participating high school and college auto programs since 2001 and is looking for more dealers to participate and contribute to help students.
"Students are the future of our industry," said Page. "No matter how technology evolves, we will always need skilled workforce. We are pleased to support dedicated students advancing their automotive education in this fantastic program at Cerritos College."
The funds will benefit current Cerritos College automotive students as well as the Southeast ROP AYES students who are accepted into the Automotive Technology Program at Cerritos College.
"We truly appreciate Subaru's scholarship contribution and its consistent support of our automotive program," said Steve Richardson, executive director of the Cerritos College Foundation and Community Advancement as he received the check. "We hope to continue this wonderful partnership with Subaru."
Cerritos College serves as a comprehensive community college for southeastern Los Angeles County. Communities within the college's district include Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, HawaiianGardens, La Mirada, Norwalk, and portions of Bell Gardens, Lakewood, Long Beach, Santa Fe Springs and South Gate.
