The Woodworking Manufacturing Technologies (WMT) Department offers a comprehensive woodworking program, to best serve the needs of a diverse community and to provide training aligned with industry needs.
The WMT Department comprises courses on state-of-the-art 32mm system cabinetmaking equipment as well as traditional woodworking machinery and hand tools. Certificate programs are designed to give students a complete background as well as the most current understanding of technology as it is applied to their area of choice. Classroom theory is combined with hands-on woodworking experience, with emphasis on training for specific job skills. Currently over 40 rotating courses are offered, with more in development.
The woodworking facility has grown from 4,500 square feet to 27,000 square feet since 1995. The expansion accommodates the addition of a CNC equipment lab, computer lab, and solid surface lab.
The Department regularly receives calls from business owners and operators who are seeking qualified workers. Many graduates of the program have entered the wood-related jobs industry.
The Cerritos College Woodworking Manufacturing Technologies Department is the recipient of the prestigious Woodworking Machine Industry Association’s (WMIA) Educator of the Year Award for 2000, which is a recognized and coveted award in North America.
