Steve began his career at Cerritos College as a student in the woodworking department (1996-2001). As a student, he won numerous awards including Best in Show, First Place Casegood Manufacturing and First Place Peoples’ Choice Award at the 2001 AWFS Student Design Competition.

He describes his style as a mixture of the simple lines of Japanese furniture, the complex joinery of Ming Dynasty pieces blended with an Arts& Crafts sensibility. His philosophy is simple, you must build a piece to last, the strength is in the joinery, then shape to create the form.

Steve earned his Bachelors of Science in Marketing from California State University, Long Beach and is the owner of Red Barn Furniture. Steve has taught computer design for cabinets but now concentrates his efforts on various solid wood manufacturing classes.
