International students are NOT permitted to work off-campus without permission from the Immigration and Naturalization Service. There are limited opportunities for on-campus employment for students in F-1 status and only after successfully completing the first term at Cerritos College.
Unauthorized employment carries very serious consequences. DO NOT depend on advice from friends or others who are working illegally, it may affect you with any future immigration benefits.
On-campus employment: International Students who have successfully completed their first term at Cerritos College and have a valid I-20 and F-1 student status can apply for on-campus employment. You can work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 during vacations. Come by the Office of International Student Services for more information.
Off-campus employment: There is very limited off-campus employment opportunities. All international students have financial sponsors who will support your education, therefore, only ask for employment off-campus if there is a real economic need or if it is a part of your academic curriculum.
