As careers in science, engineering, technology, and math will drive the next generation of U.S. innovation and economic growth, the College's focus on workforce training in competitive fields such as technology, manufacturing and engineering is more crucial than ever. The College is building a pipeline to companies that want to stay competitive with highly skilled workers. Los Angeles County remains the largest center for manufacturing jobs and workforce in the country.

California State Assembly Member (District 58) Cristina Garcia and representatives from Congresswoman Linda Sánchez' office (District 38) were also on hand to see the manufacturing programs available at Cerritos College to students seeking careers in the industry. The College's Plastics and Composites, Welding, Machine Tool Technology, Woodworking, and Engineering Design Technology programs provided guests with a facilities tour and interactive demonstrations.

"Manufacturing is a critical industry for the continued economic health of Los Angeles County and it provides quality jobs," said Assembly Member Cristina Garcia, 58th District. "We need to ensure that jobs within the industry are filled with highly trained, skilled workers from our backyard. From the turn out today, it's clear that Cerritos College is adding more trades people to this important field and helping to put people back to work."

On National Manufacturing Day, many American manufacturers and educational institutions opened their doors and inspire young people to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering by showcasing manufacturing in creative ways.

"Manufacturing is a technologically advanced industry that embodies many areas of science and math such as automation, 3D printing, robots, and screen technology. The industry is experiencing incredible growth and provides an opportunity for students to make competitive wages, earning up $77,000 a year," said Nick Real, instructional dean of Technology at Cerritos College.
